The biggest industry conversation centered around the National Retail Federation’s release of its 2026 Top 100 Retailers rankings. While the list itself saw familiar names at the top with Walmart maintaining the number one position followed by Amazon, the report highlighted several themes shaping the future of retail. Population growth concerns, AI investment, operational productivity, and omnichannel capabilities continue separating market leaders from the rest of the industry. Rather than celebrating scale alone, the report emphasizes retailers that have successfully adapted to changing consumer expectations and diversified revenue streams.
One takeaway is especially noteworthy. Retail leadership is becoming less about simply opening more stores and increasingly about building technology platforms that make stores, digital commerce, fulfillment, and customer data operate as one connected ecosystem. That has become the new competitive advantage.

While AI headlines have become almost routine, many projects are now moving from experimentation into operational deployment.
